First off, I'm Kyle, I had the ACU's, black tac vest and hat, and CA M15A4 with the silencer/ red dot.
The game master requested feedback so I figured I would join and leave it. I had a very positive experience and will definitely be coming back and bringing friends. That being said I am going to post negatives in the hopes to make this an overall better experience. They are not pointed at anyone specifically and aren't meant to come off poorly.
Likes:
-#'s.The number of people that showed up. Our group has at most 14 that play so the close to 30 was awesome!
-Fields. The courses were awesome. We only played on two but with the weather issues that is understandable.
-Play. Game variety was great. We normally play a death match style game so the objectives were fun.
-Competition. I felt like almost every game was a toss up. I hate losing but I love some friendly competition.
-Groups. Besides the last game, my group stayed intact. I play airsoft to kill time and have fun with my buddies. The fact that we got to play together most of the day was great.
-People. Everyone young to old were accepting of each other and made conversation. Everyone got along. Awesome.
-Control. The games were controlled very well by the ref and flowed pretty smoothly. Rules and objectives were clear. Safety was enforced.
Dislikes:
-Spawns. With the amount of people pushing, spawning into fire with no chance of winning was a buzz kill.
-Downtime. I'm used to constant playing. The 10 to 20 minutes in between games were boring to me. I know logistically, with the rain issues and paintballers we had to share. I just never passed that part of kindergarten.
-Hits. It didn't happen a lot but I know I personally watched a few eat bb's and flinch from the sting, duck and come back up firing.
-Hits. Again. It didn't happen a lot but I know I personally took bb's, yelled hit loudly and had my gun over my head and continued getting shot. When being honest and out of the firing line this is incredibly irritating if the bb's you are eating have some sting to them. Yes, I'm whining.
-Firing in the staging area. I got hit in the face without a mask on by someone shooting their gun in the staging area. I don't know if they were test firing or what but it hurt and could have been bad. There were a lot of people messing around with their guns and this is very unsafe.
Bonus dislike: I lost a pistol mag. Losing stuff that costs money is lame.
Fixes, ideas and future concerns:
(Whoa! Someone that complained about something is offering solutions!)
-Spawns: Have a cut off spot that can't be crossed by the opposing team, such as 60 or 75% of the map. That way a spawn isn't completely ridiculous, games can still be winnable when losing map control, flanking is possible when respawning against a team with map control.
-Downtime. 10 minutes becomes 15. 15 is 20. Ect. Set the breaks for a specific time (5 or 10 minutes) then go. I know this sounds picky but it will increase the amount we play.
-Hits. Both of these can only be controlled by you and I. Call your hits. Make sure your friends call their hits. This game is only fun when it's honest. Play fair. Pay attention. If a gun is up, don't shoot.
-Safety. The goggles off area should have safe guns and safe guns only. If someone needs to fire they should be behind netting/ out of the staging area. This needs to be announced to everyone by the ref and enforced with discipline being possible. Safety should always be first. Again, police your friends. I saw someone tell their friend to pull their mag in the staging area. Awesome!
-Future events.
I'm concerned that if the numbers doubled or more, the games would be overcrowded. I don't know if there is a plan in effect for this or not but just pointing it out. We had some spawn issues with the 28 we had, I can't imagine junkyard with 50+.
Staging area. I have $1,000 + in gear. In the event it rained again I wouldn't want my stuff on the ground, directly in the mud and water. I have a car I could leave stuff in but not everyone does. With 50+ people would the picnic tables be enough for us to stage?
We changed teams up a couple times. I'd like to see that more. Every game if possible. It changes up strategy and makes the outcome less predictable. I know, I know, I already complained about downtime. This is a reasonable exception though.
Food/Beverages. If there was a cooler with Gatorade and some candy bars on the counter for sale, I think they would be a hit. Just an idea as I have no idea on the rules and regulations on that kind of stuff.
Overall, I had a blast. I spent more time on the negatives as I wanted them to be as clear as possible and solutions to be presented. I'm not the only one that played and just wanted to open up the discussion. Post your thoughts and potential solutions on what I thought. Comment on your own experience and help airsoft at SFP progress and stick around.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible and see you on July 1st!
