Years back we used to have a pretty equal presence on here. Now it is 98% Speedballer/Tournement players. Just for the record I have nothing agains any of the Speedball/Tournement players and would gladly play side by side and most of you already know that. Just a little sad to see Chad, Curt, and I basically being the only ones left on here. Jer is more speedball. LOL No longer hear from John, Adam, Austin, or any of the old group. I do have to laugh not thinking about the way it was back then since we all moved from our Tippmanns to electros and love them! Anyway, if there are any Woodsballers still out there, speak up, get out, and play! Hmm.. wish I myself could get out far more than I have! On the bright side, we still have a great Speedball/Tourney crew to hang with.

LOL Rambos don't need friends or forums. *sniff sniff* This is what happens when Tippmann loses its innovation and most MilSim markers are now $400 and higher with no bonuses over the electros. Who wants to start with a bulky marker when you canĀ get a smaller, lighter, and more efficient marker for the same price! Dear lord please tell me that didn't just come from me! Then at that point you have to go with the flow. I'm still sticking mostly to my roots. LOL The loss of our woodsball field has also not helped. Love to get it rebuilt but I'm stuck on remodeling projects of my own that I hope are done before winter!

Well there is 2 ways to look at it:
1. People get old and they have less time, get in worse shape, or have new intrests. Add all these together and slowly the old guard disappears and all thats left is the new players. Woodsball is the old style of playing has been for years.
2. Most of the people who play/played woodsball are the same people who camp the 20 on every other field the entire game, all the while telling others to move forward. I played many woodsball games and the so called woodsballers were the ones sitting and waiting for someone to cross their path so they could take their 1 shot for the game. There is alot to be said for playing defensive in woodsball but it also makes the games boring.
This is the reason woodsball died. The people who loved it were the same ones making it unbearable for anyone who was new. Almost every flag/castle game I played in the woods was me with some people squaring off against the speedballers near the center and renters near the flag/objective. Whilst the "woodsball" elite took a 14 mile hike to flank or sat 5 deep in a brush pile, neither of which is effective or very fun to walk into the 1-10 times it works.
Of course this is just my opinion so maybe its wrong...
That said center castle control brawls in the woods were some of the best games. I loved posting up on the castle and making the death run for the door. That and being the last man standing with 30 seconds and a entire enemy team pushing the door of the castle while I hugged a barrle with both pistols out are some of my best paintball moments.

Soger, you description of woodsballers was enjoyable. Obviously it doesn't fit all woodsballers but nevertheless, they do tend to outnumber the woodsballers that enjoy moving forward. it stinks being pinned down on the 50 or so and your backup is back on the 20. THe Castle defense games were always fun. it amazed me how you could have 2 or 3 guys in the center castle in the little dip inside against 30 attackers and the 3 could typically hold their own. very fun trying to get in without getting shot out. on the other hand, rushing in while there are 10 guarding the door. . Not so much fun.

Nice one Soger! Hahaha.
My own personal thing is your comment on aging. As we get older there's more responsibilities and these past few summers are getting worse. A few days of Pball here and there and the rest is family time spending time with the kids' activities now as they get older and more busy. Weddings, grad parties, vacationing, promised relatives I'd be helping with firewood this summer. List goes on.......
So my point is you young guys:Get out and buy up all your cool gear and play a lot while you can. Also while we have the chance everyone should come to GBG in Hudson. Just throwing that out there! Lol. Join the other thread for that

I know where they went. I buried them in my backyard Dogs do the same thing when they like something and want to keep it safe. Hmmm.. I knew you liked us! LOL I think Soger is correct though, most of the good Woodsballers are the older crowd that have moved on. I know I personally have been buried the last two years. Last year I think I made it out 6 times total, this year I think the GBG will be my 5th time hitting a field. I would love to get out more but have a lot of outside financial, parental responsibilities. Heck my oldest keeps us running enough with all her music, private lessons, DSSO, Multiple Band camps through out the summer, and what not. Top that off with trying to redo most of the house! The sad thing is that yes you see most of those dressed in Camo now a days at the start of the game are there, but then not much support once the whistle blows. A lot are young kids who want to play war, but honestly, their markers cannot keep up to 80% of the others at our field! I will try to do better and support these kids where I can and try to keep them motivated. The problem is I still need to be there for my group who is expecting me to do my part while keeping up with them. Hmm.. Our field, well we focus most of our games on one life, fast paced, eliminate everyone, and move on to the next game. These are a blast! Unfortunately, they are not going to bring in anyone who loves woodsball. Yes these games are needed not only for the field itself to make money, but a lot of Woodsballers forget that the combat styles we play on the spools and tires are also found on the Woodsball field! only difference is there are lots of trees out on the big field. Our fields are getting run down though, and it would be nice to see some revenue go back into the fields. The Junkyard and Village have holes all over the place which kids to day think nothing about grabbing a tearing an opening through a wall (watched it happen and had to run up and tell them to stop trying to tear the wall panel open) Would love to be able to play a field with a 2 story castle that anyone could climb. Would be nice to play some unlimited regen games that ran an hour plus but those types of games I feel would require a Woodsball group starting up and playing monthly. They would also need to be honest and self ref to free up staff for the other fields. This would also require a fill station that could break 3K fills. I know most of us prefer speedball, we just all need to help support these non speed ball kids to keep coming back and playing the game they love. I was there once and had a group to play with. yes I thought my Tippman was the best, but in time I opened my eyes to things outside "Machine guns" and now run many different styles. I love all paintball, I don't care is we are throwing ropes, running pump, magfed, or long ball. I love paintball any way I can play it, I love the camaraderie that has grown at SP, but I do miss the woods. OK I do not miss the mosquitoes, ticks, hornets, spiders, and other irritations out there in the grass but I miss just about everything else! *sniffles* I think I need a group hug! ROFL! Just kidding! Get out and play, have fun, and help some payer that just doesn't seem to be fitting in with the games! OK I'm exhausted and starting to ramble so I think I will end it here. Oh and don't type tired, I sure hope what I typed was able to get my point across. PS: If you have the 13th and 14th free, join us down at the GBG for some intense war on a 250+ acre battlefield. Tanks.. meh we have Blake and Levi who take care of anything the rest of us can't!

Our field, well we focus most of our games on one life, fast paced, eliminate everyone, and move on to the next game. These are a blast! Personal opinion: Anyone I do not know at the field wearing camo or ghillie suit(when did these become so popular?) Is a non issue. I will just avoid the single lane they have from the back row and do my best to be the person who gets to bunker rush them when the rest of their team gets smoked because thay just sat and waited to die. As for there markers not keeping up, I guess that is a valid point. I mean its not like there is anyone who is sucessful with a marker with a low rate of fire, shorter range, low capacity or any other issue like that... IMO People will play how they want. I could go full on milsim and still play just as I do now the only diffrence would be less reloading and 12gram changing; or I could go the other route and play full on speedball and play exactly the same, except I would probably break my gun every other round so that would get old... Speedball and woodsball require the same skillsets to be succesfull but in slightly diffrent ways. I am not saying that speedball is in any way easier but if you watch a few games you get the idea of how to be effective (wether or not you can do it is another thing). With the smaller field it is just plan easier to make a plan and communicate with strangers hence easier for walk-on/rental players. Where as woodsball is much more about quick and concealed movement, well placed defenders, and causing misdirection in the other team by having multiple strike points at once over a much larger area so you need good communication and planning. Try and get 2 people you don't know to stick to a plan in the woods and tell me how that goes. Thats why walk-on/renters tend to dislike woodsball games, they are just not fun unless its 2 "teams" not just 2 groups of people. *****Side Note****** Played 2 times this year now. This weekend I had the entire old player club out in full force, like 13 people and 2 pistols. Like always the 2 pistols were the players you didn't want to square off against. There was alot of talk from the "wrenshal farm boy association" that they wanted to start having regular paintball outing again like we used too. If I set days (will almost always be either saturday or sunday as we all have normal jobs now...) and they follow through and play I will post up as they would love to play some castle/CTF in the woods here and there.
